It all started with the split of the Roman empire.The Roman empire split after the death of the emperor and his two sons wanted to take over the Roman empire but of coarse there can only be one emperor so they split the Roman empire rather than killing each other. When they split the western side was more poor and less powerful than the east and they mostly relied on taxes and since they were poor they couldn't afford the taxes so they fled Rome and the only ones who stayed where the rich people.
When the western Rome empire started to weaken they were invaded by Germanic tribes and that was the end of the western empire.There were also a lot of other reasons for The decline and fall of Rome such as sexual orgies, climatic changes, bad ecological habits, and Christianity.Although there are a lot of reasons for the decline and fall of Rome I think the most reasonable and explainable is the split of the Roman empire.
